Verizon Rejects Hollywood’s Call to Aid Piracy Fight
Unlike AT&T, Verizon won’t monitor its network to block unauthorized copying. That would violate customer privacy, it says, and would be expensive too.
I agree with Verizon at this point. It would need to analyze the data going through their network, by snooping into every data into it. This would invade people’s privacy and may not be possible at all. How can they ensure that they would snoop only those packets that are not supposed to be copied? Just as encryption nowadays is very common, it would also be difficult to decrypt those, and the question would be, why would it try to decrypt them? Verizon could place itself in a hot position in agreeing to Hollywood’s call to aid piracy fight. AT&T may have nodded to it without studying it first.
