2o7.net Overview
2o7.net is actually a company called OMNITURE. It is classified as a Tracking Cookie - meaning it is used to profile a user’s surfing history, commonly with the intent of targeting advertisement to a user. 2o7.net is also Third-party cookie, a marketing company like the Omniture was used by a Website to learn about the browsing profile of a user - as opposed to a First-party cookie that is placed directly by the site being visited.
2o7.net Cookies store information about a PC user’s interaction with a specific website. Standard Cookies are not inherently dangerous, but they can be misused and exploited and may allow a distinct and apparently unrelated website to access the same information. If more than one website can access a cookie that has been placed on the user’s PC, that cookie poses a security and privacy risk. Tracking cookies can allow vendors to analyze browsing behaviour for marketing purposes.
Omniture has explained the nature of 2o7.net and offer an opt-out of the session tracking cookie by visitors. But the “opt-out” solution is contradictory and will not remove the 2o7.net cookie, it will again install another cookie to opt-out! It is ridiculous.
