Entrepreneurial hackers buy sponsored links on Google
A hacker scheme that involved buying search keywords on Google, then routing users to a malicious site when they clicked on sponsored links, was revealed by a security company. The attackers profited from a Google design quirk. When users pause the mouse cursor atop a sponsored link, the full URL does not appear at the bottom left.
Google now may opt to change this design, to show the URL when a user’s mouse hover over the ad. It is not only for security issue, but a lot of users want to know what they are clicking before clicking it. This potentially increases click-through ratio since it enhances user’s confidence on what they are clicking.
