DoubleClick

Overview

DoubleClick is a mainstream ad network that uses tracking cookies to target advertising.

Tracking cookies or data miners are cookies that are used by two or more Web sites to track an affected user’s Web browsing habits and display advertisement or other material the users might be interested in.

Similar to spyware, tracking cookies collect user information for third party recipients.

DoubleClick fails the cookie score-card due to their compact P3P policy. Double Click’s cookies come with the following tags, which automatically results in failing the cookie scorecard. The failing tags are: DEM, INT, PSA, PSD, UNI, PUR, PRE, and the fact that the NID tag is missing from the compact p3p policy. The presence of these tags indicates the loss of expected privacy for the end user, such as the potential collection of information on methods of payment, age, gender, income, habits and interests for purposes of profiling.
